Professor Kelly Pfeifer is a clinical teaching fellow in the University of Michigan Law School's Community Enterprise Clinic, where she focuses her practice on providing transactional legal services to neighborhood-based entrepreneurs and small businesses in the city of Detroit. Prior to joining the Law School faculty, she spent 12 years at Community Law Center, Inc., a public interest law firm in Baltimore. There, as supervising attorney, Professor Pfeifer counseled nonprofit organizations in a variety of transactional matters including entity choice, organizational documents, tax exemption applications and compliance, capacity building, and contracts. She also advocated for community-based nonprofits in land use and equitable development matters by appearing before administrative agencies and negotiating community benefits agreements with developers. She received her BS from Purdue University and her JD from the University of Maryland School of Law, where she obtained a certificate in environmental law and was a student attorney in the Community Development Legal Theory and Practice course.
